April currently is the Senior Director for DEI for the healthcare system PeaceHealth with locations all over the Pacfic Northwest.  She has acted as a leader, consultant and trainer to executives, senior staff and management on issues regarding diverse, inclusive and equitable programming, outreach, recruiting and retention as well as developed DE&I curriculum, cross cultural communication plans and cultural competency awareness for large and complex organizations and educational institutions.

April also is the resident diversity expert on the Emmy winning ABC show “Afternoon Live” in Portland, Oregon, where April advised people on cultural competence and how to apply a racial equity lens. She is also the best-selling author of the children’s books entitled, “I Love Being Me” and “It’s Nice to be Nice” which focuses on embracing racial and ethnic diversity.

April’s unique background includes a Juris doctorate degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law as well as from Temple University, Beasley School of Law. She also holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in American Ethnic Studies and Political Science as well as a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Washington.
